INSECT CONTROL

Insects can destroy a lawn in a matter of weeks, controlling lawn damaging insect is part of our Lawn Care Program. The products for insect control last 14 to 20 days, but insects hatch at different times and can move in from your neighbors lawns or the mowing company that mows many lawns before yours they can bring in insects and even weeds into your lawn. That is why Extreme Pest recommends to their customers to have their lawn treated monthly especially during the active months of lawn damaging insects.

Insect control for ornamental, trees and shrubs are also especially important since they are more susceptible to many more insects than your lawn. Certain plants are more susceptible to insect than others.

FIRE AND OTHER ANT CONTROL

Fire ants are miserable landscape nuisances. Their repeated bites cause nasty welts, and their mounds can wreck a beautiful lawn in no time. Keeping these pests under control is a matter of safety, comfort and household aesthetics.

Fire ants are social insects that build nests, called mounds, by pushing up soil as they tunnel in the earth. They nest in almost any type of soil, but prefer open, sunny areas, like your lawn.

Unlike other kinds of ants, fire ants have no nest entry on the mound itself. They enter the nest via tunnels that may reach several feet or more beyond the mound itself. Though it is the most recognizable sign of the presence of fire ants, a mound is not necessary for the survival of a fire ant colony. During especially hot or dry weather, colonies tend to move deeper into the ground, foregoing the palatial mounds that are so obvious in moderate weather. New colonies may not build a visible mound for months or longer, depending on soil and weather conditions.

Fire ant colonies can have a single queen or multiple queens. Single-queen colonies are territorial in nature, limiting populations to approximately 150 mounds containing 7 million ants per acre. Multiple-queen colonies tend to share resources and are tolerant of other colonies in close proximity. These characteristics may allow for up to 300 mounds and 40 million ants per acre.

Colonies frequently migrate from one site to another. The queen needs only half a dozen workers to start a new colony. Workers can develop a new mound several hundred feet away from their previous location almost overnight. Fire ants come in a variety of colors, but they are typically red or reddish-brown. In size, they range from 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch, and there is massive variation in size within the colony. An important tip to recognize is ant families all share the same size within the colony.

Our fire ant treatment works well on them, as well as many other ants.

MOSQUITO CONTROL

Mosquitos are an annoying pest that we have to deal with every year, not only are their bites itchy and irritating there are many disease transmitted by mosquitoes such as West Nile virus, malaria and are a major cause of heartworm infection in dogs and cats.

Our Program is a Monthly program that starts In March. An Inspection of the property will be performed to identify and treat any breeding sites at time of service and will advise you of what steps need to be taken to reduce the potential for breeding in those areas.

We treat the breeding sites with a larvicide to prohibit the larva from becoming adults. Treatment includes spraying of all plants and shrubs including any shaded areas around the property especially areas of dense vegetation, standing or stagnant water are areas mosquitos may use to hide during the day.

Mosquitos thrive from the beginning of Spring to the end of Fall. Mosquitos are at rest during the daytime, making them most active at dusk and dawn. Please note that additional visits beyond the normal monthly visit will be charged the same as the monthly service price.
